Один из распространенных агрегатных индексных показателей (см. Индекс), по которым оценивается изменение общего уровня цен (например, розничных). Исчисляется как отношение фактической стоимости проданных товаров в изучаемом периоде к условной ее оценке в ценах базисного периода: где p1, p0 — цены товаров соответственно для изучаемого и базисного периода, q1 — количество товаров, проданных в изучаемый период. Индекс розничных цен, публикуемый органами государственной статистики, рассчитывается указанным способом. Он, в частности, позволяет определить реальный выигрыш населения при снижении уровня цен на те или иные группы товаров (так же как и проигрыш при повышении).
